Last weekend, from the 27th to the 28th some students of our school took part in a media workshop to learn something about intercultural communication and how to produce language videos that can help others learning foreign languages.
The presenters came on Saturday noon from Münster. Mr Lammen and Carina are working at the Schiller Secondary School in Münster, also an UNESCO-project school, whereas Janusz is working in a media workshop in this school and has several other projects especially relating to the Solar Net International.
We began our first part of the workshop at half past one and kept on working until six o’clock in the evening. The day was first of all filled with theoretical introductions and finding ideas that should be realized practically later on. After Carina presented Solar Net and the idea of connecting people and exchanging ideas, feelings and all things you’d like to share as well as she gave a brief introduction into the topic intercultural acting.

The second part was presented by Janusz. First of all he gave an overview of video programs and image processing application as well as he gave a first introduction of how to create a video and what kinds of scenes they can produce. After this input session we had a short break and then the students began working on their videos.
Before you can create a video you need a script and to find a script we asked the students to come together in small groups writing down their scripts. We got four groups all chose another technic to create a short video and then they worked very hard and did a good job. All the needed things were prepared on Saturday and we closed the workshop for this day.
Christoph, Janusz and Carina spent the night in the boarding school but before they went asleep, we had dinner in the Italian restaurant where we decided what to do on Sunday and how we can carry on our collaboration after this workshop. We decided to come into closer contact on the way of Arabic and Arabic workshops but we didn’t define absolutely how to realize it.

On Sunday morning at 9.30 we began the second part of the workshop and we could finish 2 of the video projects although it was a little bit stressful, it was really great and interesting. Besides doing their own videos we also made a video of an Arabic lesson including an interview on how I came to the profession of teaching Arabic and why students choose to learn Arabic.

The second part of the workshop will hopefully take part in in January but then we are going to Münster to get to know this city. The participants of the workshop were:
