On June 7, 2002, the administrative district of Gotha, as a result of suggestions and advice from the parents, the school and the Ministry of Education founded an association for the conduct of the boarding school of the Salzmannschule. The association, headed by Mr Ralf Hafermann, is completely the daughter of the administrative district. Together with the special school for languages a concept was developed which deals with the cooperation between the school and boarding school.

Pedagogic Intentions

In order to reach the goals of the concept we try to realise integrated learning and education.
To achieve these standards we
• support the school’s concept also at the boarding school,
• participate consciously with the parents and pupils and
• support an advisory council which works with the management and advises it in educationally relevant topics.

The work at the boarding school is based upon four pillars:
• The boarding school as a temporary home
• Cooperation with the parents of the children in the boarding school
• The organisation of a professional setting which encourages language learning, living and considers the development of talent
• Establishment of fixed structures in everyday life with the conscious use of routines and responsibility in order to gather social competence

From one perspective, the aim of the pedagogic work is the individual advancement of talented pupils, especially in learning languages. From another – responding to Salzmann’s traditions – it is to bring up the pupils to live a rational, natural and humane life.
Entry into the boarding school is dependant on acceptance into the language school. When no longer attending, the right to live in the boarding school also ends.
